Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) President and former chief minister of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy took oath as the Heavy Industries and Steel Minister in the third Narendra Modi government, and has reiterated his support towards the BJP-led Union government, at a time when his nephew Prajjwal Revanna was allowed to flee the country on a diplomatic passport to escape law enforcement after being accused of sexually abusing hundreds of women.

But all of this has put the Kerala unit of the CPI(M) and the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in a major fix as the JD(S) is still a part of the alliance in the state, essentially being a part of the government.

The leftists in Kerala have remained tight-lipped as Deve Gowda’s party is part of the ruling alliance, which is raising eyebrows in the political spheres – are the communist parties, including the CPI(M) and CPI, lending a helping hand to the union government?

There has been no official statement from the LDF alliance, after it was routed by the Congress-led INDIA in ‘God’s Own Country’. The LDF managed to bag only one seat in the state, their tally being identical to that of the BJP, which opened its account for the first time there, with Malayali film star Suresh Gopi winning from Thrissur.

The decimation of the CPI(M) and the CPI have further raised concerns—will both the parties lose their ‘national party’ tags soon, after their abysmal performance?

In a hard-hitting statement, Kerala opposition leader from the Congress VD Satheesan attacked Vijayan and said only he could show double standards by allowing the state unit of the JD(S) to continue to remain part of the Left Front-led alliance.
