Today, the Supreme Court granted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal interim bail for 21 days until June 1. The national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has been directed to surrender on June 2, a day following the conclusion of the seven-phased Lok Sabha elections.

Kejriwal, who is facing charges in a money laundering case, had requested release from custody to participate in the ongoing electoral campaign.

A bench consisting of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta had earlier reserved its decision on Kejriwal’s plea for interim bail on May 7.

Kejriwal was detained on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged liquor policy scam involving money laundering. He is presently held in judicial custody at Tihar jail.
