Eshwar revolts against Yeddi as Karnataka BJP broils in feud

March 20, 2024 | < 1 min read

The BJP’s initial line-up of 20 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka has sparked dissatisfaction among state leaders, with some hinting at a potential shift to the Congress party. KS Eshwarappa, a former deputy chief minister and staunch RSS supporter, openly revolted against the party after his son was overlooked for candidacy.

Eshwarappa sought a ticket for his son from the Haveri Lok Sabha constituency but found the party nominating the incumbent MLA and former chief minister Basavaraj Bommai instead. Disgruntled, he announced his intention to contest from Shivamogga, opposing what he termed “dynastic politics in Karnataka” and challenging the previous chief minister BS Yediyurappa’s elder son.

Former chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda, initially hesitant about contesting, suddenly expressed a strong desire to participate, hinting at the possibility of joining the Congress.

In Koppal, two-time BJP MLA Karadi Sanganna expressed dissatisfaction at being denied a ticket, contemplating his options, including a potential switch to the Congress.

The selection of candidates like V Somanna for Tumakuru provoked former Karnataka minister JC Madhuswamy, who expressed disappointment at not receiving Yediyurappa’s support for his candidacy. Madhuswamy acknowledged the confusion among leaders and indicated his intention to convene a meeting to seek guidance from his constituents on the next course of action.
