Esplanade Station on East-West Metro to be inaugurated shortly

February 7, 2024 | < 1 min read

The Esplanade station on the East-West Metro line (Green Line) is presently receiving the final touches needed for the commencement of the shortened Howrah Maidan-to-Esplanade section.

During its inspection between December 15 and 18, the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) expressed discontent with the incomplete state of the station.

The CRS officials were notably displeased by the presence of an accessible shaft within the station, which provided access to the troublesome Esplanade-to-Sealdah section.

On Monday, February 5, Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety Janak Kumar Garg carried out an inspection of the Howrah Maidan-to-Esplanade stretch, assessing various elements including the tunnel section beneath the Hooghly river, the tracks, the tunnel ventilation system and the lighting within the tunnel.
