Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd. (HPL), a subsidiary of The Chatterjee Group, a major player in the petrochemical industry, has declared the initiation of India’s largest phenol plant in Haldia, East Midnapore.

The project, valued at Rs 3,000 crore, is anticipated to be completed by the first quarter of 2026.

Notably, this facility represents India’s first on-purpose propylene plant employing olefin conversion technology (OCT) from lummus technology, whose establishment will empower the Kolkata-headquartered HPL to become India’s first integrated player in the phenolics chain.

The phenol plant will have a production capacity of 300 kilo-tonnes per annum (KTPA) of phenol and 185 KTPA of acetone.

According to an earlier statement by the company, the plant is projected to contribute an additional revenue of Rs 5,000 crore to the overall chemical business portfolio.
