North Bengal business conclave brings in Rs 24,000 cr worth investments

Investments worth Rs 24,000 crore were placed at the North Bengal Business Meet (NBBM) 2023. These would be implemented within a span of two years. The business conclave comes in the backdrop of the highly successful Bengal Global Business Summit held on November 21 and 22.

Business organisations and trade bodies of eight districts in north Bengal participated in the business meet, held at the Biswa Bangla Shilpi Haat in Kawakhali in Siliguri on Thursday, December 7.

Chief Secretary of the Bengal government, HK Dwivedi said investment proposals have come from various sectors.

A brief overview of investment proposals at NBBM 2023:

  • Two industrial parks in Kalimpong (covering 14 acres and 5 acres)
  • Convention centre with star hotel in Siliguri
  • Hospitality sector – Rs 600 crore
  • Healthcare sector – Rs 160 crore
  • Food processing units – Rs 105 crore

The convention centre in Siliguri will be the state’s second largest after the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in New Town near Kolkata.

The Bengal government has also provided 40 acres for the runway extension of Hasimara Airport in Alipurduar district. A joint inspection by officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the state government has also been recently done to identify land for the extension of the Cooch Behar Airport.
