The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will organise a grand two-day Ganga Aarti celebration at Baje Kadamtolla Ghat, starting November 26 to celebrate Dev Deepawali. This is the first time that such an event will take place on this scale.

The ghat already hosts a popular Ganga Aarti celebration, which started a few months ago at the initiative of the KMC.

The infrastructure at the ghat will be upgraded to accommodate more aarti performers and attendees. Renowned musicians from Mumbai and Bengal will sing devotional songs at the event.

Dev Deepawali is one of the most well-known traditions associated with Diwali. It is also known as Tripurotsav as it commemorates Lord Shiva’s defeat of the demon Tripurasura, as well as the day when the gods descend to earth to bathe in the holy river, Ganga.

The event is celebrated on the day of Kartik Purnima (the Hindu full moon day), and generally falls 15 days after Diwali.
