Elon Musk has appointed Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter, the first such appointment after taking over the short messaging platform. The Penn State University alumna has spearheaded the worldwide ad network operations of NBCUniversal and Twitter and is currently also the chair of WEF’s Future of Work taskforce.

After serving over a decade at NBCUniversal as its advertising chief, Linda Yaccarino has decided to take over the reins of Twitter. Her appointment as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the short messaging platform was announced by its owner Elon Musk.

“I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter! @LindaYacc will focus primarily on business operations, while I focus on product design & new technology. Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app,” Musk tweeted on May 12.

Before NBCUniversal, Yaccarino served for almost two decades at Turner Entertainment, where she spearheaded the network’s advertising sales operations towards the digital era.

Right now, she also serves as the chairperson of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Future of Work taskforce as well as a member of the WEF’s Media, Entertainment and Culture Industry Governors Steering Committee.

The Pennsylvania State University alumni has served under both the Republican administration of President Donald Trump and the Democratic administration of his successor Joseph Biden.

Trump appointed her to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition in 2018 for a two-year term and renewed her term in December 2020. For Biden, she helped create a COVID-19 vaccine education initiative called ‘It’s Up To You’.
