Kolkata has India’s fourth highest HNWIs

April 21, 2023 | < 1 min read

Kolkata is among the wealthiest cities in India, going by a recent report by Henley and Partners. The city is home to 12,100 people with an investable wealth of at least one million dollars each, whom the report calls high net worth individuals (HNWIs), as per data updated on December 31, 2022. This makes the city the country’s fourth wealthiest.

The first three spots are occupied by Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru whose HNWIs number 59,400, 30,200 and 12,600, respectively.

Among the HNWIs, Mumbai also has the largest number of dollar billionaires (that is, investable wealth of at least one billion dollars), at 29. Kolkata has seven.

The report lists 96 cities and city-equivalent clusters, based on their high number of residing HNWIs (like The Bay Area and Santa Barbara & Montecito in USA, and Zurich and Geneva cantons, rather than the cities, in Switzerland).

At 3,40,000, New York City has the largest number of HNWIs, and at 63, The Bay Area has the largest number of billionaires.
